Rumours are rife that Harpreet Singh Sidhu who is returning to the parent cadre from Central deputation is being appointed new DGP of Punjab. He is 1992 batch IPS officer. In fact, present DGP Gaurav Yadav is junior to Sidhu in the seniority list. Sidhu is  to retire on February 10, 2028.
